Careers

At The Forest High School, our Careers and Pathways program supports students to make informed decisions about their future education, training and employment. We work closely with students, families, staff and external partners to help students explore options, set goals and transition confidently beyond school.

Careers Information & Communication

Students and families can access the Careers Canvas page, which is used to share:

This page is regularly updated and is the main communication platform for careers-related information at The Forest High School.

Beyond Careers Platform (from 2026)

From 2026, The Forest High School will be introducing the Beyond Careers platform.

Beyond is an online careers education platform that supports students to:

  • Explore career interests and strengths
  • Research career pathways and industries
  • Understand education, training and employment options
  • Plan personalised post-school pathways

The platform brings together career exploration tools, course and job information, and pathway planning in one place.

Parents and carers are also encouraged to register for a Beyond account, allowing them to stay informed and actively support career planning conversations at home alongside their child.

More information about access and registration will be shared with families closer to implementation.

University Pathways

At The Forest High School, we support students preparing for tertiary education at university and college through information sessions, workshops, providing resources on Careers Canvas Page and participating in Future Pathway Interviews.

Externally Delivered Vocational Education and Training (EVET)

TVET courses are run by TAFE and also offer dual accreditation – they count towards the HSC and give students a nationally recognised certificate, depending on the course length.

Students in Years 11 and 12 can study TAFE courses through TVET. Students in Years 10 have the opportunity to experience a taste of TAFE in the Start Your Future (SYF) program. TVET and SYF courses are advertised on the year group’s Google Classroom.

TVET courses for the following year are released in July of the current year, with students needing to complete an Expression of Interest by August 31

Helpful Resources:

School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs)

SBATs let students earn a VET qualification and their HSC at the same time. Students work one day a week in paid employment, gaining real skills and experience in the workplace.

A School Based Apprenticeship allows students to start the first year of a trade qualification while completing Years 11 and 12.

All SBAT opportunities must be discussed and approved by the Careers Adviser before starting.
Find out more at: School-based apprenticeships and traineeships

SBATs must begin in Term 4 Year 10 or Term 1 of Year 11. Students must be assessed as suitable before the Principal can approve.

Helpful Resources:

Work Experience

Work Experience is a valuable program where students are able to explore a range of industries and workplaces with the security and support of their school. Work experience is available for students in Years 9-12 throughout the year. Year 10 students have the opportunity to participate in the TFHS Work Experience program.
