Northern Beaches Hospital Precinct Structure Plan
Frequently Asked Questions
Has the Department of Education made a decision to relocate The Forest High School?
The Department has not determined to relocate The Forest High School however supports working with the Northern Beaches Council to investigate the viability of a new high school as part of a state-of-the-art Education and Recreation Precinct located at the Warringah Aquatic Reserve. The aspiration for any relocation of the high school would be to establish a benchmark secondary school that is integrated into broader community and sporting facilities.
Would the community be consulted if a decision to relocate the school was made?
Yes. Extensive engagement is being undertaken to inform the potential relocation of The Forest High School to the Warringah Aquatic Reserve. Planning would be driven by a Project Reference Group (PRG) inclusive of the local Director Public Schools NSW, School Principal, and a Parents and Citizens Association representative and is expected to commence in early October. Broader school and community engagement would be implemented as the planning process progresses including the public exhibition of the Warringah Aquatic Reserve masterplan by Northern Beaches Council. Further information will be distributed to the school community via monthly updates.
Would students need to relocate to a temporary site during construction of a new school?
No. If a decision was made to relocate The Forest High School, students would not move until the new high school was built.
How many students could a new high school cater for?
Generally, the Department would design a new high school for up to 2,000 students; however, a number of factors need to be considered when determining the initial built capacity of the new high school. For example, we need to consider the educational needs of students, building constraints, the impact on surrounding schools and projected enrolments for the area.
Examples of new high schools announced by the department are listed below:
Inner Sydney High School: capacity of up to 1,500 students
Ballina High School: capacity of up to 1,200 students
Are alternative sites being considered for The Forest High School?
Throughout the planning process, the Department has worked with the Council and Department of Planning and Environment to investigate several local potential sites. However, the only viable site to date is the Warringah Aquatic Reserve.
Is Frenchs Forest Public School being considered for relocation?
No. The department has no plans to relocate Frenchs Forest Public School.
